This is a fabulous hand made circa 1900 Arts & Crafts brooch featuring a medallion with bust of Cicero, a battle axe, and an oval green art glass cabochon all mounted on bronze finished hand hammered square. The back has its original C clasp. There is one possible mark on the back that looks like a figure 8, but this is indistinct.
The brooch weighs 29.5 gr. It measures 2" square.
Condition is good. All patina has been left alone and intact, as it should be.
If you are a fan of the rustic hand crafted pieces of the Arts & Crafts era then you will recognize what a superb example this is, from the purposefully asymmetrical placement of the medallion, axe and green stone, to the irregularity of the surface of the square. It is perfectly imperfect and made to be that way. Great surface color too.
