This is an incredible highest quality circa 1950s Mid Century Modern atomic design 950 sterling silver Japanese made coffee and tea set that includes coffee server, tea pot, creamer, sugar bowl with lid plus the matching heavy silver plate serving tray. The coffee, tea, sugar and creamer are all marked STERLING 950 MADE IN JAPAN on the bottom. The matching tray is unmarked and is silver plated.
The combined weight of all the 950 silver pieces is 1820 gr. That is well over $1500 in melt value alone - but I saved this set from being melted. It is just too too fine to meet that fate.
The coffee pot with hinged lid weighs 755 gr. It measures 12" tall, 11" from tip of spout to handle, 4" across the narrowest diameter of oval top, 3.75" across diameter of base, and approximately 5.25" diameter of the 'belly'. Condition: The coffee pot has 2 dings, 1 on the bottom of the spout and one on the 'belly' near the spout.
The tea pot with hinged lid weighs 670 gr. It measures 10" tall, 10.5" from tip of spout to handle, 4" across the narrowest diameter of oval top, 3.75" across the diameter of base, and approximately 5.25" diameter of 'belly'. Condition: the tea pot has 2 dings, 1 on the bottom of the spout and a very slight 1 on the belly near the base of the spout. There is also a small round aberration in the finish on the neck.
The creamer weighs 165 gr. It measures 5.25" tall, 4.5" from handle to front of lip, 2.5" across the narrowest diameter of the oval top, 2.5" across the diameter of the base, and approximately 3.25" diameter of the 'belly'. No condition issues noted.
The sugar bowl and its lid weigh 230 gr. It measures 5" tall with the lid on, 4" tall without lid, 5.75" maximum from handle to handle, 3.5" diameter top, 2.5" diameter base, and about 3.5" diameter 'belly'. No condition issues noted.
The matching silver plated tray weighs well over 3 kg., weighing in at 7 pounds. It measures 18" x 29". Condition: minor expected surface wear. No plate loss.
Overall condition of this set is good, with only the minor flaws noted.
A note about shipping this set. The shipping calculator shows this shipping together in one over-sized heavy package with a choice of USPS Parcel Post or Priority shipping, or USPS Ground. I would recommend shipping the tray separately by one of the cheaper shipping methods and the silver pieces by Priority and can quote you those costs according to your address upon request. For international orders I only ship via USPS Express Mail. Express Mail is also an option for US shipping - quoted upon request.
This is the tea set that Jane Jetson would have coveted. It is amazing. The Japanese often used 950/1000 grade silver instead of the minimum 925/1000 grade silver that qualifies as sterling.
