This is a highly unusual circa early 1900s hand crafted Arts & Crafts copper relief cameo profile of a handsome man. The center of brooch is formed from copper which merges into a silver tone base metal - perhaps pewter - border of fringed and curled metal. The reverse side has a simple pin back with C clasp. There is a reddish varnish on the back. There are no markings.
This brooch measures 1.875" x 1.5".
Condition is good. Some of the reddish varnish applied to the back of the brooch is worn away.
I'm sure this represents a known famous figure but so far I haven't identified him. If you admire the qualities of the Arts & Crafts style then this unique brooch may appeal to you. The emphasis was on craftsmanship and not on the use of fine metals and gems. Materials such as copper and pewter, and sometimes semi precious stones were the norm.
