This darling 11" tall circa 1860s German bisque shoulder head doll was made by Alt beck & Gottschalck, and she is all original. She has her factory original body plus many layers of clothing. She must have been a beloved baby doll, for she is very sweetly dressed in antique baby clothes. Her uncommon hairstyle has a deep flat center part with mounds of curls around the perimeter. She has a slightly turned head and the chubby modeling of a young child.
The factory original body though has the wasp waist of an older girl. It is a cloth body firmly filled with sawdust. The lower arms and legs are bisque. Her left arm is slightly pinker than the right, and the left hand has some finger tip chips. Her bisque legs have fancy glazed stockings with tassel border and gold luster boots, but the right foot has been rebuilt and (sort of) painted to match.
Her 8 pieces of clothing deserve a paragraph. The clothing consisst of a white cotton twill bonnet with soutache trim and deep neck ruff; cotton chemise, petticoat, and pantaloons; knit undershirt, full length slip, flannel top gown, and flannel jacket with blue embroidered border stitching.
Condition: The bisque shoulder head is in good condition, no chips, cracks or repairs. Left hand has finger tip chips. Right foot has been rebuilt. Clothing is in good condition, I note only a couple of small brown stains on the full length slip plus it need a hook replaced and a little waist stitching in back. The pantaloons were unstitched at the waist in order to remove them and will need to be restitched. There is some grime accumulated in corners of her eyes that I didn't see until after I took photos - sorry about that.
This little one is sweet as pie. Will she be your new baby?
