This is a beautiful Victorian British Raj period sterling silver Indian shield shaped brooch depicting the god Shiva with spear in the right hand, and a snake in the left. The brooch is unmarked but tests positive for silver of sterling grade. The back has an old fashioned T hinge and simple C clasp. The brooch is hollow with a single small air hole in the center back - part of the construction method. Shiva is also wearing a draped snake around the shoulders and is surrounded by foliage and flowers.
This brooch weighs 16.7 gr. It measures 1.75" x 1.5".
Condition is good, with only some minor soft wear to the highest points such as the nose.
