Dance of the Mandan Indians - Antique Engraving

We are offering for sale an antique engraving titled "Dance of the Mandan Indians". This is an outdoor scene with Mandan Indians in various stages of costume performing a ritual dance. The art image measures 4 3/4" x 7" with the frame measuring 9 1/2" x 12". This engraving is in very good condition. The engraving by Rawdon, Wright & Hatch, was created from a drawing by Ch. Bodmer.

FYI: The Mandan are a Native American tribe that historically lived along the banks of the Missouri River and two of its tributaries in present-day North and South Dakota. The exact origins and early history of the Mandan is unknown. Early studies by linguists gave evidence that the Mandan language may have been closely related to the language of the Ho-Chunk or Winnebago people of present-day Wisconsin. Scholars theorize they may have settled in the Wisconsin area at one time. Ref: Wikipedia
