This is a hand painted limited edition cel of Capt. Hook & Mr. Smee from the 1953 classic movie Peter Pan by Walt Disney Studios. Capt. Hook is 8" x 3 ¾" and Mr. Smee measures 5" x 3". The frame measures 23 ½" x 19" and is in excellent condition. This cel is signed by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnson, two of "Disney's Nine Old Men", and numbered # 23/350 in the edition. Also comes with an official Disney Studios COA.
To help protect the art, mats, backing and hinging are acid free, plus the glass is conservation clear to block out 98% of the UV rays.
FYI: 1.) A hand-painted limited edition cel is created from the drawing and is in limited numbers. Each limited edition cel is created and painted exactly the same way as a production animation cel, the difference being that this is not the actual cel that was photographed for the film. These cels are numbered the same as limited edition prints.
2.) Disney's Nine Old Men were the core animators (some of whom later became directors) at Walt Disney Productions who created some of Disney's most famous works, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs onward to The Rescuers. Walt Disney jokingly called this group of animators his "Nine Old Men," referring to Franklin D. Roosevelt's dismissive description of the nine justices of the US Supreme Court, even though the animators were in their thirties and forties at the time. All members of the group are now deceased (the latest being Ollie Johnston, who died in 2008).
