This is an authentic autograph of John A. Logan (1826-1886) who was a Civil War Union General and the running mate to Blaine during the Presidential campaign of 1884. This also includes a 19th Century sepia cabinet photograph of Logan and a presidential election token of 1884. In 1868, Logan wrote a letter that championed a day to honor the soldiers that had died defending their country. This was the start of the USA's Memorial Day holiday.
The wood frame has a gold finish and is 18 x 10 inches. The photograph is 5 3/4 x 4 inches and the mat opening for the signature is 2 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches. The presidential token has a profile of Blaine and Logan. It is 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 inches. This is in very good condition.
This is a perfect addition for the Civil War, Election or USA History collector. A copy of the contents of his letter for the start of Memorial Day is included.
