We are offering for sale a wood inlay sculpture, or intarsia, of a Jack Russell puppy by contemporary artist, David Penosky. The sculpture measures 9 1/2" x 11" x 2". Intarsia is a dimensional wood inlay technique which uses the colors and grains of the wood to create a lifelike impression. Each piece is individually laid out on the wood, chosen for the way it will add to the overall pattern of the finished piece. After fitting the pieces together, individual pieces or segments are raised or lowered to create dimension. Then each piece is sanded and shaped to remove the rough edges. The pieces are fitted together again and surveyed for the overall look before finishing and final assembly. The piece is in excellent condition, ready to hang on your wall.
Biography: Dave Penosky has always enjoyed working with wood, including building furniture items for friends and working on traditional watercraft at the North Carolina Maritime Museum. He took up scroll sawing as a hobby about 10 years ago when cutting out wood shapes for his wife's craft painting. He then progressed to fretwork, an intricate scroll saw art form. After seeing * intarsia patterns, he decided to try one and immediately fell in love with the art. It enables him to more accurately create a realistic likeness of the animal.
David and his wife, Lisa, live in Manteo, NC.
