Made in Germany by the Roschutz Porcelain Manufatory Unger & Schilde Ltd. around 1906 this curious Cockatoo is part figurine, part vase and part tray. Handsomely hand painted the base is crafted to look like multi-veined marble while the Cockatoo itself has flowing nouveau detail that is a feast for the eyes. Measuring 8.75" tall to the tip of the 'Too's crest and 4 3/8" squared at the base the piece is surprisingly heavy with a weight of almost 2.5 pounds all by itself. Its condition is good for the age with a manufacturing flaw on the edge of one wing, minimal paint loss and a tiny chip on one crest point (pls. see pics and keep in mind I used a super macro lens, to the naked eye it appears as a small rough area - if at all). The Cockatoo is marked "Altenburg, Saxony" on the base under a crown logo along with "Ges. Geschutzt" and "1918" pressed into the porcelain. Very rare, very unusual and very striking. You can't go wrong with this!
