What a treasure from the heart of farm country! This fabulous early stoneware butter crock with blue stripes is such a wonderful piece. The crock measures just over 7" in diameter and stands 3 ½" tall. It retains it's original lid, remarkable for the age! The crock has the word "Butter" in faded blue on the front, worn from age.
The condition on the crock and the lid is quite good. The crock has no cracks or hairlines, there are a couple very small shallow flakes on the rim and a few normal glaze pops. The lid shows no cracks, hairlines or chips, and only a few tiny flakes on the underside of the rim. Amazing!
On the bottom, written in pencil, is the inscription: "Mrs. Young – 2 Lbs." This sweet inscription from great grandma makes this butter crock even more special and unique.
This would make a fantastic country statement when displayed in your primitive kitchen cupboard. A beauty from great grandma's farm kitchen!
