Early Wooden Thimble and Thread Holder
This wooden piece was designed to hold a thimble, thread and probably a few needles. It is an early lathe turned piece that was probably once very important to a seamstress and besides being pretty would have helped her organize her mending tools. The bottom is near egg shaped and is on a pedestal- the top mimics the design of this pedestal base(reminds me of a pawn on a chess board) and amazingly not only has it's original top but also the little inner piece which is original to it as well. The wood is in very good condition(fashioned from a single block) but you may want to polish the common use areas -this has changed colors from where it was constantly handled(top finial and base) but we like that look and left it as received. This is an old one and may very well be closer to antique than old vintage but we are unsure of exact age. Measures approximately 6 1/2 inches tall
