Woodworker's Turning Gouge 5/8 inch Stormont Sheffield C. 1900

This woodworking tool is a turning or turner's gouge. It is ground on the convex side to a radius of 5/8 inch. It is marked "Stormont Sheffield" and dates from C. 1900. Overall length is 12-1/2 in. including the turned boxwood handle. Blade length is approx. 4.3/4 in. The carbon steel blade is 3/16 in. thick,. The reinforcing ferrule is brass. Condition is good with some pitting and a nice finish. The butt of the handle has been rapped a few times, but no crushing or splitting. Shipping weight is 3 lbs.
