I have called this leather but it may be shagreen. There is no wear on the case, it has certainly held up well over the years as this, I am sure, is Victorian. These were often used on chatelaines; this one has a pin on the back and would have been pinned to a garment. The front of the monogrammed discs appears to be silver but the back with the pin is not. The initial is an 'H' or 'D"? I have also seen these cases used for scissors. Size of case is 5 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches. Hanging length is 7 1/2 inches.
