This exquisite antique Victorian locket is beautifully crafted in 10K rose gold and ornamented with turquoise, seed pearls and an angel skin coral flower. This is one of the most beautifully made pieces of jewelry I have ever had the pleasure to see. The portion of the locket that is designed to hold a picture or lock of hair is double sided. There is an oval glass cover that opens from the back. This is framed in rose gold which tests to between 10 and 12K. The frame features a ribbon and wreath design accented with two seed pearls and a tiny turquoise stone. There is a double loop of delicate decorative chain suspended from the bottom of the frame.
One of the most interesting and beautiful features of this locket is the decorative front which is designed with a release which allows it to swivel to one side to reveal the picture or lock of hair under the glass. This front portion is ornate and open and features flowers, leaves and butterflies. It is set with 18 tiny turquoise stones, five seed pearls and a tiny carved pink coral flower. I don't know if the turquoise stones are natural or glass, but given the quality of the piece I would imagine that they are natural turquoise.
The locket has a pin back with a C catch and it also has a fold down bail so that it can be worn as either a brooch or a pendant.
The locket measures 2 inches by 1 1/4 inches. It is in excellent condition. The pin is slightly bent but I see no other issues. Truly, an exceptional piece of jewelry.
