This is a very attractive hand painted Victorian mantle ewer. These were made as purely decorative items and were displayed on mantles and sideboards, most often in pairs. This one is made from opaque glass, hand painted in a floral design. The glass is mounted in an ornate base and 'spout' made of spelter (pot metal). It looks like the metal mounts had a gold or brass finish at one point and I think that the part that attaches the base to the glass is actually brass.
It is 17 inches tall and about 5 inches across. It is in very good condition with wear to the metal mounts, as noted, and a couple of light surface scratches to the paint as can be seen in the pictures.
