Semi Ovoid 1 Quart Salt Glaze Stoneware Jug ca. 1850-60 -HTF Size
This is a hard to find 1 quart size jug! It has a wonderful, mottled tobacco spit glaze with brown, tan and gray. It has a lot of character with the `orange peel' texture that collectors love. It almost has a spongeware look! The flat bottom is glazed and the applied handle has decorative ridges. It is gray clay and it is a heavy piece.
It stands 8" tall and is 3 ½" across the bottom. It weighs about 1 ¾ pounds and it is ca. 1850-1860.
Very Good Condition: it has a chip at the mouth and some chips at the foot on one side, as shown. There are a couple glaze and clay flaws from the manufacturing process, including a small piece of excess clay, one large pockmark near the base of the handle and a thin one on the side. There are no cracks.
This is a terrific opportunity to add a hard to find size to your stoneware, crockery or salt glazed collection. Don't miss this one! We are always offering lots of interesting goodies, so please take a look at our other items. We would be pleased to combine shipping on multiple purchases.
