Rosenthal Swirled Gilt and Enameled Serving Bowl
What a beautiful pattern! The deeply moulded pattern has both deep and shallow swirled ribs up the sides. The ruffled scallop at the rim is dotted with three plain and three gilt areas that enhance the three-dimensional look. The swirls and curlicues of gold extending from the gold at the rim are highlighting moulded designs. The tiny peachy pink and lavender pink flowers have green, gray and brown foliage. They are a transfer decoration with hand coloring and tiny white enamel dots at the center of most flowers.
It is marked "R. & C.; Germany" with crossed lines and a crown and was made by Rosenthal. This mark was used from 1891 to 1907. It measures 9 ½" across the rim and it is almost 2 ¼" at the rim.
Excellent Condition: no cracks, chips, nicks or crazing. It shows minor wear to the gold, retaining 90%.
This is one of the prettiest porcelain pieces we've seen from this famous manufacturer. It is suitable for use and display and it could easily be a complement for many other dinnerware sets.
