We are pleased to offer this 1944 cookbook, Pillsbury's Diamond Anniversary Recipes. It is sub-titled Celebrating Three-Quarters of a Century of Food Pioneering.
This booklet was published in 1944, during World War II and it opens with a history lesson, recounting the pioneers' westward push and the story of grist mills and wheat harvests. Mixed in with the recipes are snippets of historical milestones, including the advent of train travel and WWII rationing. An interesting passage states: "For the third time the cry of `Bread!' goes up from starving nations. Again America answers the call – with Fightin' Food".
It has some full-color pages interspersed with two-color pages. There are 10 unnumbered pages and the last couple of pages show all of the Pillsbury products. This booklet measures about 8 ½" by 11".
Very Good Condition: the cover has minor scuffs and wear to the edges and corners and it is not faded but has some age darkening. The binding is excellent and the booklet is complete. The pages are not torn and there is no writing. It has been used but not abused and it does not have a musty smell.
This is a very interesting cookbook, with loads of interesting information and it offers a glimpse back to a time of sacrifice and uncertainty. It would be a great addition to a Pillsbury advertising collection, a vintage kitchen or a cook's library, so don't miss this one! We are always offering a nice assortment of vintage goodies, so please take a look through our shop. We would be pleased to combine shipping on multiple purchases.
