A 19th century 'lava' cameo bracelet. Composed of ten oval shaped gilt metal plaques set with 'lava' cameos of female busts in varying muted colours joined by gilt metal chains and a snap tongue clasp with attached safety chain. Italian circa 1865. Measurements, total length of bracelet 7 1/2" ( 19 cm ). Measurement of plaque, just over 5/8" ( 1.65 cm ) by 7/16" ( 1.4 cm ). Condition, Very Good. 'Lava' cameo jewellery, made from fine limestone native to Southern Italy in a palette of muted greys, greens & browns etc was in vogue in the mid nineteenth century and often bought as souvenirs by people traveling in Italy.
