An Austro-Hungarian 800 grade silver brooch, of oval shape, the obverse enamelled in black and set with seed pearls in an engraved design of lily of the valley and a butterfly. Circa 1895. Measurements, 1 3/4" ( 4.5 cm ) by 1 3/8" ( 3.5 cm ). Condition, Very Good, a couple of minor marks to the enamel ( consistent with age ). The hinge plate of the clasp bears an Austrian control mark for 800 silver. A nice example of an Austro-Hungarian enamelled brooch. Enamelled brooches and bracelets set with seed pearls were a feature of Austro-Hungarian jewellery of the late 19th century-early 20th century.
