A Rare Beauty-this lovely antique Fine Art Plate is completely handpainted and signed 'IMF' by the famous late 19th Century American porcelain artist and art teacher: IDA M. FERRIS. Ferris was a very prominent porcelain artist and teacher whose work was a featured frequently in the prestigious KERAMIC STUDIO publications between 1898-1915 (published by Adelaide Alsop Robineau). She also was advertised as a teacher located in Fostoria, OH. Her pieces in Keramic Studio are simply signed Ferris. She did four Color Supplements that I know of...Violets in Feb 1905, wild yellow roses in June 1906, cosmos in Jan 1908, and daisies in Nov 1908. Clearly Ferris's reputation as a painter of flowers was reaching great heights. She produced extraordinary flower paintings with wonderful detail and color variations. Her work is quite diverse, from simple and bold to complex and delicate flower paintings, with roses being one of her favorite subjects to paint. This Old Fashion White, Peach, and Pink Rose piece is an exceptional example of her work, with delicate forms painted in a silk-like fashion, their naturalistic appearance is uncanny. The delicate Gold scrolling along the gold scalloped rimmed plate adds a lovely touch of elegance to an already beautiful piece. A very RARE and wonderful addition to any great porcelain art collection!
