This is a signed piece by the talented late 19th Century artist 'Vane', and professional decorating artist known to work for White's Art Co., one of the premier Chicago decorating companies. Many artist of the time were known to produced and signed unmarked freelance pieces that they sold on the side. As artists migrated among the many Chicago studios, they took their ideas and styles with them. Although very few examples of his work has been documented (please search all RL shops under the keyword 'Vane Limoges'), this certainly would serve as a wonderful example- very simple yet elegant. The naturalistic piece features Drooping Purple Irises.
