A glorious treasure from the past, here is a pristine Antique Victorian (circa 1900) 14kt yellow gold and diamond bangle. With delightful floral scrollwork and old mine cut diamonds, this bangle looks as close to 'perfect' today as it would have 120+ years ago.
A consignment piece, our client told us she was handed down several bags of old jewelry from her husband's family. Most pieces were costume, however, a few treasures were found within, including this marvelous gold bangle. The majority of the jewelry came via her husband's grandmother, which had sat untouched and unseen for quite some time. I knew immediately looking at this bangle that she had a special one here.
Clearly stamped 14k on the push-clasp mechanism, this yellow gold bangle fits a standard 6.5 to 7 inch wrist and is approximately 3/8 inch wide. For reference, my wrist is about 5 3/4 to 6 inches, and you can see in the pictures how I have excess room. It was neither too big nor too small on my wrist.
The intricate floral scrollwork is visually stunning, adding a high luster glow to the bangle with the etching running all the way around the bangle. While the exterior of the bangle is yellow gold, a rose/pink gold hue appears on its underside (where it would rest against your wrist). It is slight, so we're calling the bangle 'yellow gold' in color.
Upon the top half of the bangle are 3 old-mine cut diamonds, securely claw set and estimated to weight about 0.10ct each. Without removing them, we can only estimate their carat weight, but based on calculations, they likely fall within the range of 0.25 to 0.30ct combined, with the central diamond slightly larger than the others. These diamonds are eye-clean and sparkling as old-mine cuts do, with no apparent chipping.
As a whole, the bangle is truly in remarkable shape for its age. So many times we've come across old bangles with dings, dents, bends and sometimes even teeth marks. This darling shows none of those, with only a slight abrasion visible in our highly magnified pictures, likely caused by the bangle scraping along a surface of some sort. The clasp is strong and locks securely, and the gold weighs a good 14.8 grams.
Bangles old and new are once again popular (did they ever really go out of style?), and adding this beauty to your collection will surely have people asking 'where did you get that?'. She's gorgeous - make her yours and show her off. She's been in hiding too long!
