Early Art Deco 18k Opal, Ruby & Diamond Ring!

A true crossover in styles, we date this beautiful piece of jewelry between 1910-1920, when the Edwardian period was coming to a close and the Art Deco period was picking up speed! Elegant scroll work runs around the underside of the gems, while a double halo of glorious rubies & old European cut diamonds surround the central solid natural white opal!

The oval shaped opal flashes every color possible, with lots of green, blue, orange and red flickering throughout. It measures within its mil-grained bezel setting approximately 10.00 x 7.50mm with a depth of 2.20mm, which by calculation is 1.03ct. There are no abrasions, chips, scratches or crazing to the opal. The opal has ''a somewhat bright, multicolor play of color (fire) in a flashfire pattern; a low dome; a good cut; slightly included; minor dull spot in its brightness & pattern; and is slightly directional''. The colors you see in our pictures are the colors you see with your naked eye - it's beautiful.

Surrounding the opal in the first halo are 28 stunning natural pinkish-red rubies that are calibre-cut in shape! These are Burmese in color, though we don't have proof of origin, but WOW are they gorgeous! They emit incredible fire and add dynamic, color & extra 'bang' to this super ring! It is estimated that the rubies weigh approximately 0.28ct combined.

The outer halo of the ring, and the sides of the shank hold a total of 48 old European cut diamonds that also weigh around 0.29ct combined. They are fiery and glisten marvelously, averaging VS-SI in clarity and G-I color. They are perfectly eye-clean and all look to be original to the ring which is in excellent shape!

The metal is unmarked 18kt white gold, which has been acid-tested for its purity. It is strong & solid with no bends or dents anywhere. Aside from light surface scratches on the band expected from age & wear, its condition is wonderful, and it doesn't look to have ever been sized.

Currently a US Size 5 3/4 (could fit 5 1/2 to 6 as the shank is a fat oval-round shape); Sizable.
