Big cocktail or dinner rings aren't everybody's glass of wine but I just love this ring! With its large and very deep blue spinel stone surrounded by the prettiest coloured tanzanites and tiny diamond accents in its ornate band, this ring has a real WOW factor!
At first, we thought we were looking at a dark blue sapphire, but our praesidium gem tester confirms what we were told: this large oval center gemstone, measuring approximately 9mm X 7mm is a genuine spinel.
In lovely contrast to the deep blue of that one-carat spinel are the 12 lovely lavender coloured tanzanites set around it. These are a mix of round and trillion cut stones and they're super bright and clear as you can see in the photos.
This entire top mount measures about 15mm X 13mm before giving way at the sides to an ornate 9mm wide band in which one small diamond is set on either side. This band is 14k yellow gold but the diamonds have been set into a strip of white gold. Click to enlarge the photos to see what we mean. That band has a truly lovely design.
No lightweight ring ... 4.65 grams ... this ring is also a large size. It's a 9.5, but if you have a smaller finger, I don't think sizing it down would be difficult.
This ring is in very good vintage condition and I don't see any chips in the stones. All I see is its uniqueness in both the combination of stones, spinel and tanzanite, and the nicely designed band. While it's not everyone's style, as far as cocktail or dinner rings go, it certainly rates as one of the most interesting I've seen yet. What do you think?
