A GEM! Just look at how darling this beautiful natural purple sapphire and diamond cocktail ring is! Dating approximately to the 1960's, this designer JABEL 18kt white gold ring now holds a blazing pinkish-purple natural sapphire, surrounded by sparkling diamonds.
When we found this beauty, it was missing its original center stone, but knew it was the ideal mounting to showcase its next, perfect forever-gem, and so we purchased it without hesitation. Digging through our trove of natural gems, we initially tried a green gem, but our gemologist pointed out that gem was treated, which we prefer not to offer, so we quickly changed our minds on that one and keep looking for the best fit. Quite a few months passed until I went through an old collection of gems I had placed out of sight, and as soon as I looked, I knew that glowing purple sapphire in the gem box was THE stone. A quick placement in the mounting and I was convinced she was ready for her new home within the Jabel mounting. And LOOK at her! What a gorgeous natural purple sapphire in such a unique and beautiful setting.
Weighing 1.29ct, the natural sapphire exhibits a slight color-change from purple to pinkish-purple, which is noticeable in a few of the pictures where the pink popped in to say 'hi'. The sapphire measures approximately 6.79 x 4.85 x 4.00mm oval-cut, with just slightly included clarity and gorgeous scintillation.
In classic JABEL style, the die-struck 18kt white gold mounting is incredibly strong and solid - there is no chance of bending this ring out of shape under any normal circumstance. It holds 22 round single-cut diamonds that are approximately H-I in color, VS1 to Si1 in clarity and total around 0.17ct. Our gemologist mentioned there are a couple of very small 'flea bites' to a couple of the diamonds, however, my eyes can't find where, but we always provide full disclosure to our clients. The basket-like design of the ring allows light to enter and dance around within the setting, which helps the gems glow that much more since they get maximum light.
On the smaller size, currently a US size 4.50 to 4.75 (15.35 to 15.38mm inner circumference), the ring is hallmarked 18k JABEL, and is also hand-etched inside with both what appears to read "L2374" and "374". At a guess, these numbers or 'codes' are to identify the style of Jabel ring. The ring will be sizable within a range, likely no more than 2 to 2.5 sizes up, due to the sideways-oval design of the ring, however, we always confirm with our jeweler on sizing limits, so please inquire about sizing BEFORE placing your order so we can be sure.
