Ahhh - the Edwardian, or 'Belle Epoque' period. My personal favourite jewelry period, and so rightly named and known as 'The Beautiful Era' spanning about 20 years from 1895-1914. Platinum jewelry was in its prime and diamonds were all aglow in the stunning delicate & feminine designs of this gorgeous period. From incredibly pretty lace-like cut-out patterns, to bows, swirls and floral accents, Edwardian jewels captivate the eye & mind with their serious beauty.
Circa 1905-1910 is this darling and dreamy all-platinum, all original aquamarine and diamond ring. Absolutely perfect as an engagement ring, the finely cut-out details, dotted with diamonds and millegrain beading create an elegance seldom seen in jewelry dating post-1930. Even the re-created styles of today don't capture the stunning hand-cast, hand-produced wonders of the early 1900's...they are just so delicately beautiful.
The natural cushion-cut aquamarine measures approximately 7.65 x 7.00mm, with an estimated depth of 5.70mm - it's a very deep-cut and set gem, with a noticeable antique cut to it. By calculation, we estimate it to weigh around 1.90-2.00ct. It's not perfect in cutting, but it's perfect for the ring. Not bearing any damage beyond some expected wear given its 100+ years, the aquamarine exhibits a stunning lightly saturated, water-clean bluish-green hue. It glistens like flowing water under sunlight, proudly raised within its 8 platinum claws. A small natural flourite inclusion, yellow in color, exists just to the left of one of the prongs, assuring the natural status of the gem, which is otherwise completely free of any further inclusions. The aquamarine isn't perfectly set or 'aligned' within the prongs, and we can have her re-set so she's 'straight' within them, however, as the ring is in its all-original condition, we won't remove/re-set the gem unless it's requested by you at the time of purchase as to not disturb the peaceful integrity of the ring.
Of course, the ring wouldn't be complete without its sparkling diamonds. Ranging in size from about 1.65mm to 0.90mm, there are 22 natural diamonds gorgeously dotted throughout the lacey design, 6 of them collet-set (early bezel setting), and the rest bead-set. Single-cut in style, the diamonds are estimated to total approximately 0.30ct, though its impossible to gauge their exact carat weights. Flashing with color, the diamonds are clean VS2-Si1 clarity (a few Si2), and white F-G color. Extremely fine millegrain beading runs in swirls around the diamond settings and atop the collet-settings, adding texture and added shine to the ring.
So regal in appearance, the ring sits about 9mm tall from the top of the finger to the top of the aquamarine, and measures about 7.35mm at its widest. The ring is platinum, however, its hallmark is nearly entirely gone, with just a very worn 'Pt' somewhat visible with magnification. It was nearly impossible to photograph - only our loupe caught it on inspection - but you can just see the remnants of the hallmark in picture #9. This ring came to us via England, so she's likely European or British made.
Currently a large US size 9 1/4 in size, the ring will be easily sizable, so do not fear if you've found the ring of your dreams - we can have her sized to fit YOU perfectly!
Truly a Belle, this gorgeous antique beauty won't go a day unnoticed - she's simply too stunning! You don't find them like this very often!
