From the collection of a lady belonging to the Governors Club of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, comes this highly collectible and very beautiful antique Bohemian garnet bangle/bracelet.
Weighing 17 grams and stamped in 2 places with 14k, the Bohemian garnets are set in gilt metal in a 5-station motif across the top of the 5mm wide bangle and run for a length of 20mm or 1 3/4 inches. The center cluster of garnets is just short of 3/4" wide; those either side are 3/8" wide and the furthermost clusters are 1/4" wide.
The bangle opens to a wide 3.5" for easy insertion and closes very securely with a tongue-in-groove latch and a figure 8 safety lock. There is evidence of a chain having once been attached but it's not needed as the bangle snaps tightly shut. Closed, the bangle interior measures 2.25 X 2.0 inches.
Typical of its age, the Bohemian garnet motif is attached using soldering that can be seen from the underside. We had our jeweler look at it and touch up the appearance of the solder with gold plate as much as possible on the top so the gray solder doesn't show. He polished up the finish and the bangle presents beautifully.
All the garnets are a fabulous, very deep red, prong-set and chip free. This bangle has been very gently worn and cared for. The bangle area itself has ornate and very lovely scroll work, making it a pleasure to wear.
