Antique 18ct Gold Engraved & Carved Amethyst Ring - Fabulous!

Though it has no markings, it's of British origin and has been acid tested for 18k. The most striking feature of this ring, for me, is not so much the amethyst itself, but the incredibly beautiful carved mounting in which it's set. It's ... well ... regal, for lack of a better word. Double-click our images and see for yourself how amazing it is with all its carved curves. The 18ct mount measures about 5/8" east to west and just over 1/2" north to south. Just a lovely woven head and open-work design.

Now all of this is not to take your attention from that amethyst: it's a beauty too and what I love about this stone is its colour. It's not the usual violet-purple we associate with amethyst. This 2.5ct natural amethyst is more a combination of dark rose and purple i.e. it has a deep pink/purple hue. Quite stunning and different. The only negative on this stone ... and it's very minor indeed ... is a tiny surface nick. Given the overall beauty of this antique ring, the nick isn't worth a second of your time.

The ring is currently a 6.25 according to the original owner. However, my ring-sizer puts it at a 7. Given the discrepancy, here's the measurement of the inner diameter: 18mm. The ridged band is about 1/8" all round so resizing shouldn't be an issue.
