This unique original French Art Nouveau lithograph is from the L'Estampe Moderne Series issued between 1897 and 1899.
Titled 'Sous Les Fleurs' (Under the Flowers) it is a symbolic piece by Edmond Francois Aman-Jean (1860-1953).
Featuring a serene and lovely long haired maiden in soft muted tones of yellow, green and burgundy. She is surrounded by flowers and appears to be disappearing under a film of water.
Signed in the plate and bearing the official 'blind' stamp of authenticity lower right (see picture #2), it was published by Champenois of Paris in 1898.
The Antique condition is good with some minor edge and corner wear. The plate measures 16" x 12" and the subject is 13 3/4" x 11 1/2"
The L'Estampe Moderne series consisted of 4 unique limited edition (1050) lithographs issued monthly in a cover by Alphonse Mucha. See picture #3. The original price was 3 francs 50 centimes.
Original L'Estampe Moderne lithographs are now highly sought after and examples are to be found in the collections of all the great Galleries of the world. This is one of the very rare lithographs that have become so popular they are no longer available on the world market.
Aman-Jean was a French Symbolist painter and etcher and close friend of artist George Seurat. He gained great popularity in USA prior to WW1.
