This divine Tapestry Purse is French and dates from the 1920's.
The front and back designs are the mirror image of each other and depict a naughty looking winged cupid who appears to be climbing a tree (or perhaps stealing apples). He is surrounded by a decorative framework of swirls, flowers and leaves in pastel muted shades of tan, ochre, rusty rose pink, faded blue and olive green on a neutral background. The design is a little faded but in sound condition with no tears, stains or damage of any kind..
The frame is of chased brass with an 8" chain and strong snap-lock brass ball closure. The original water mark silk taffeta lining is moderately damaged near the opening hinge and has some staining at the top near the framework. The original mirror with silk backing is still in an inside compartment.
Width 7". Height including ball closure 6 1/4"
This a rare French purse to add to your collection.. I have never seen a similar design.
