I am pulling this extremely rare Christmas tree pin from my private collection, a tree that is featured in Kathy Flood's recent book, "Comprehensive Jewelry Guide to Christmas Tree Pins, Vol. II" (See last photo for book cover).
This exquisite tree has blue, green and red glass with gold swags and circles inside a gold plated frame. It stands a petite 1.75" inches tall and measures 1.25" inches at its widest point. This lovely holiday arbor is unsigned but it certainly designer-worthy! Excellent condition.
Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass.
