This signed Donald Stannard piece, vintage early 1970s, features a 5" inches long lion head pendant, with ring knocker and dangling 22mm tortoise brown glass bead with a gold plated pagoda bead cap. The long sautoir necklace has four of these pagoda capped round tortoise brown beads, as well as oblong carnelian red glass beads and forty-two(42) 14mm round marbled turquoise blue glass beads, all knotted in-between.
NOTE: Mr. Stannard created a very similar necklace to this one for famous Hollywood star, Ann Miller. It was one-of-a-kind and designed especially for her (See last photo). Her lion necklace was made from simulated sapphire and emerald glass beads, as well as simulated diamonds (crystals or rhinestones)...same gold plated lion and coolie hat bead cap shapes. Miss Miller collected many pieces of lion jewelry because of her long-time affiliation with MGM movie studios.
The lion head pendant itself on this listed for sale necklace measures 2.5" inches tall, and the necklace has a wearable length of 34" inches. Back of lion pendant is hallmarked "DONALD STANNARD", and this entire piece is in excellent condition.
Bit O'History: From 1968-1972 Stannard worked as an assistant to the famous Kenneth Jay Lane until he became just as well known for his own works. His jewelry has adorned many starlets in many broadway shows and television shows including Dynasty, One Life to Live, and All My Children.
