These beautifully painted lupine flower earrings immediately brought one of my favorite children's books to mind, Miss Rumphius*. Purple and blue lupines with green atomic starburst leaves are painted on these white oval, dome shaped earrings that are made of porcelain and are embellished with 14K gold bands around the edge. This vintage 1950's pair are clip earrings. Each one measures 1" inch tall X 3/4" of an inch wide. They are in excellent condition on the front and very good on the back. Gold tone on the clips is quite worn, but despite this flaw, they are fabulous earrings. So pretty!
*Miss Rumphius is a picture book for children written and illustrated by Barbara Cooney and first published by Viking Books in 1982. It features the life story of fictional Miss Alice Rumphius, a woman who sought a way to make the world more beautiful and found it in planting lupine in the wild.
