This sterling filigree ring, prong set with an unusually cut synthetic alexandrite stone, is on the cusp of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco design periods, dating it most likely to 1910-1920. The vertical, barrel cut of the stone is very unique and has rich, color-changing properties in purple and blue, according to the master gemologist who looked at it under his special magnifying microscope.
This gorgeous stone (measuring 9mm X 12mm) is prong set in a sterling silver filigree and floral setting. The four prongs are petal, daisy-like flowers with a round center. Head of the ring measures 16.5mm X 14.5mm. Ring band tapers from 3mm to 2mm at the back. Inside of ring band is hallmarked "STERLING". This fabulous ring weighs in at 3 grams and has a US size of 6.25. There are some flea bites on the stone, as can be seen in the photos. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition.
