Sphinx of England 1960's Mod Givre Art Glass Brooch

This classic 1960's modernist brooch is designer signed by Sphinx of England, a company that has been compared to the quality and design of America's Weiss. The gold plated, rounded triangle shape is smooth on the edges and brush textured on the surface underneath the large glass stone. The rounded corner, 3-side stone is givre art glass, a dark rootbeer brown hue infused with swirls of white and caramel. It evokes the image for me of cream blending into coffee.

This massive stone measures 28mm (1 1/8" inches) X 37mm (1.5" inches). The brooch itself measures 1.5" inches tall X 2 3/8" inches wide. Back of brooch is hallmarked "Sphinx" in an oval cartouche. This mod piece is in excellent condition, save for one tiny chip in the upper left hand corner of the givre stone, which is only slightly noticeable.
