RARE Vendome signed 1953-55 ~ 3D Topaz & Watermelon Glass Brooch/Earring Set

This completely stunning and rare-to-find Vendome signed brooch and earring set is intricate in its three-dimensional construction, with four unusual and large 6-sided geometric gammatic stones (pointed side up, reverse set like Schreiner of New York, sometimes referred to as "fantasy cut") that are foiled and open back, pear shaped glass cabochons in color-changing watermelon, with topaz brown marquis, citrine orange pears and rounds, as well as small peridot green rhinestones, all prong set in shiny gold tone.

The large focal stone is a trilliant, rounded corner triangle shaped, in topaz brown, unfoiled and open back to let the light shine through. This stone alone measures 1.25" or 32mm across. This amazing stone is dog tooth prong set in a gold tone setting, 10mm or 3/8" of an inch deep/thick!

From beneath the setting of this large center stone, protrudes the rest of the nine large singles & clusters of stones on thick wires, which make them appear to float around the outside, to frame the large stone all the way around.

This edgy, ultra chic, subtly floral brooch is a true showstopper. It measures a full 3" inches tall X 2.5" inches at its widest point. It is in really excellent condition.

Earrings measure 1 1/8" inches tall X 1" inch wide. They feature the petaled flower, gammatic or fantasy cut watermelon stone and topaz marquis and citrine orange pear stones. Back of lever back, screw adjustable clips are hallmarked "Vendome".

This rare Vendome brooch is circa 1953-1955, since the hallmark does not include the copyright symbol (which began sometime in 1955) - and because most Vendome jewelry did not bear their name until 1953. This piece is hallmarked Vendome on a raised, oval cartouche on the back.

All pieces are in pristine, excellent condition! Yowza!!

NOTE: Morning Glory Antiques & Jewelry shows this same brooch on her Vendome information page with red stones in a gold tone setting.

Bit O' History: Vendome (1944-1979) Vendome was the high end line of costume pieces produced by the Coro Jewelry Company from 1944-1979. This design line was created to replace "Corocraft" as their high end name.

The Vendome line was named after the famous high fashion-couture street in Paris, France. Coro intended the line to emulate fine French fashion. The Vendome line did not become wildly popular until the early 1960's, largely due to beautiful designs introduced by Helen Marion, Vendome's principal designer. The quality craftsmanship, attention to detail and chic designs clearly distinguishes this collection of vintage jewelry from similar styles of the day, making it highly sought after now by collectors and vintage jewelry fashionistas.
