Art Nouveau Female Face with Flowing Hair Pendant/Amulet

This mysterious and beguiling Art Nouveau, early 1900's pendant (with bale broken off) looks like it might have been some kind of amulet from its size and weight. A female face emerges as if half sunken in water, with long hair flowing and curling around her face and neck. Her eyes are closed and she has a restful look on her face. She reminds me of mother nature.

This early 20th century piece is executed in thick, heavy, 800 silver, with some 3D relief. It weighs in at 9 grams. The back is etched with the initials "VNE" and hallmarked 800 silver.

It measures 1" inch tall X 1 1/8" inches at its widest point. As stated above, the bale loop is missing from the top, but it could be replace by my jeweler or yours - either on top or hidden on the back. Otherwise, it could be carried as a trinket or amulet.

French for "new art", this early 20th century 1890-1910 period of art and architecture was inspired by natural forms and structures, not only in flowers and plants but also in curved lines. Art Nouveau was most popular in Europe, but its influence was global.
