1960's: Paper Mache Folk Art by Effie Lewis

This wonderful vintage paper mache ( French for chewed paper ) figurine was created in the 1960's by Cumberland, Maine artist Effie Lewis.I have seen her work before and grew up with some of her pieces used as Christmas ornaments. As of today I can find no mention of her anywhere. This handmade molded and painted paper mache' doll is of a little boy dressed in the most adorable hand made and sewn sailor suit. The dapple gray rocking horse is also of paper mache but the rockers are wooden. In excellent condition.Measures 7 1/2" high x 6 1/2" long and 2" deep.Complete with original sticker and signed.
