*Circa 1850:Large, Old World , Rococo Sterling Silver Cherub Box

This heirloom box has housed a few treasures in it's time!German made with a amazing Rococo repousse design of cherubs sounding trumpets while sitting on spheres inside a banner with roaring lions heads.Surrounding the lid and box edges are arrangements of fruit in pedestals with leaves. Most interesting are the four different scenes ( seasonal ) of a town with buildings,a bridge and a moon scene and a sun rise scene.Typically the silversmiths or artist's who did this type of etching and punch work were commissioned by the buyer to add personal touches to the silver piece.Fully marked 930 STERLING GERMANY and a hallmark that I have had no luck yet attributing to maker, but it appears to be a I over a C inside a star. The aged patina is beautiful on this rather large 6" x 4 1/2" and 2" high hinged treasured, treasure box.Condition is mint with a wonderful story to tell!
