I just LOVE these old Italian hand painted miniature portraits of the world's most renowned beauties throughout history. If you are at all familiar with these miniature masterpieces you know by now that some are much more well executed than others. This particular one portrays Simonette Vaspucci is by far one of my most favorite of all I have had the pleasure of viewing.Simonette Vespucci ( 1453-1476 ) was also better known as La Bella Constatine. Simonetta was an Italian Renaissance beauty with a side as dark as ones imagination will accept of the stories that abound out there of her lives. In this particular portrait she is portrayed as Cleopatra with an asp wrapped around her neck ,as seen in the famous painting of her by Piero di Cosimo. It is also reported that she is the same beauty used to inspire Botticeelli's paintings of, " The Birth of Venus ", "Spring " and " Portrait of a Women ". This exquisite pendant / brooch with a folding tuck away bail is superbly breath taking.Bold bright colors with well defined details are only improved upon with 5 real sparking diamonds tucked into her hair, as an earring and one used for the asp's eye.The image size measures 1 1/2" x 1". The portrait is framed in 18 k yellow gold with a four piece framing that is almost as exquisite as the portrait itself. The entire piece framed out measures 2" x 1 1/2". Marked on the back 750 and Italy. In perfect condition As of lately over the last several years I have seen more and more of these appearing on the market. With intense research I have found that they are being re created by a number of modern day artists and jewelry designers from around the world.Even though these newer designs are still lovely they should not be confused with the older grand tour pieces.Hope this clears up any confusion.
