Pre 1898: Lovely and Large, Art Nouveau Bowl By Forbes Silver company
Forbes Silver Company was established in 1894 as part of The Meridan Company in Connecticut and in 1898 they merged again with The International Silver Company. They specialized in silver plating of hollow ware pieces such as serving trays, tea and coffee sets, pitchers and vases. This lovely hallmarked pre 1898silver plated shallow bowl is all you could ask for or want in a heirloom piece.Well,I would prefer it be sterling but it is still a true beauty! The high relief and deep set floral and scrolling design are outstanding. This large shallow table bowl is a fine example of Art Nouveau style, flowing and sensuous curving with a floral and naturalistic theme. The mark reads Forbes Silver Co.US Quaderplate #83.It is in excellent condition with a soft patina in all the right places and without any dings, dents, scratches or damage. There is no loss to the plating. It is a nice solid piece and measures 11 3/4" in diameter and 2 3/4" high.Superb for any table top,but breath taking hung on a wall as a work of art.
