1865 - 1920: Sterling Fort Sumter Souvenir Spoon

These lovely old sterling and collectible spoons are works of art!Designed and crafted by some of Americas past most talented silversmiths sometimes it is really hard to find any two exactly alike. This particular spoon depicts a detailed and commemorative historical account of Fort Sumter and South Carolina's points of interest. One of my favorite parts of this spoon is the embossed bowl with moving waves crashing against the fort.On the front finial and handle of the spoon are beautiful palm tree with swaying fronds and Charleston spelled out.The handle works it's way down with a tiny seal of the state and CALHOUN spelled out ending with the trowel shaped bowl. The back of the spoon has a embossed image of St. Michaels Church with a figural man beneath and goes on to read 1 on S C.It was made by James Allen & Company of Charleston South Carolina, which was in business from 1865 until 1920. The back is marked sterling ,Jas.Allen & co. with the shops logo mark.It is in perfect condition and measures 5 1/2" long with a bowl measurement of 2" x 1 1/2".
