Rootie Kazootie was a television cartoon character for children in the early 1950s. This is the second book about him. In this book, he is the star pitcher of the Yankapups baseball team. (I note later in the book that the Yankapups are playing the Dodgerooties!) In addition to Rootie, many of his animal friends appear on the team, such as Gala Poochie Pup, Joe di Puppio, and El Squeako Mouse. The evil villain, Poison Zanzaboo, has kidnapped El Squeako in order to sabotage the game. Rootie and his friends, including Polka Dottie, race to the rescue and there is a happy ending. The book is in good shape for its age, quite a bit of wear to the shiny spine that is a trademark of Golden Books, but the binding is tight. There is a child's name in the front but no stray crayon or pencil scribbles. The book was written by Steve Carlin, illustrated by Mel Crawford, and authorized by Mary Reed, PhD, a noted child development expert in the fifties.
