Slender and graceful, this vintage Seven Sorrows rosary has silky smooth wood beads, beautifully designed and cast medals, and wonderful energy that will surely lift your spirits. It features rice-shaped oval wood beads that glide effortlessly through your fingers. They are mounted on sturdy pins with oval link chain surrounding each medal.
The silver plated (tested) medals are cast in heavy metal and bear most of the weight of this rosary. They have a very sweet rendering of Mary and vivid depictions of her sorrows. She has a Mona Lisa-like countenance and seems at peace with her role in the life and mission of Jesus. The more I look at this image, the more I realize it’s the medals that make this rosary feel so good.
One of the most popular Marian devotionals, the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows is also known as the Servite rosary, which originated with the Order of Friar Servants of Mary in the thirteenth century. Its configuration includes 7 groups of 7 Hail Mary beads that are recited in remembrance of the Seven Sorrows: (1) The prophecy of Simeon; (2) the flight into Egypt; (3) the loss of the Child Jesus in the temple; (4) Mary meets Jesus carrying His cross; (5) the Crucifixion, (6) Mary receives the body of Jesus from the cross and (7) the body of Jesus is placed in the tomb. The three beads in the drop commemorate the tears Mary shed for the suffering of Jesus and are said to obtain true sorrow for our sins.
This gentle Catholic devotional will quickly become a touchstone and soothing companion for traveling life’s mysteries. It is in excellent vintage condition and sturdy enough to support your prayers for penance, as directed by Our Lady of Kibeho in 1982. Comes with prayer instructions and is boxed for ready gift-giving.
