Demure and feminine, this delightful Catholic rosary will fit perfectly in your purse and lift your spirits throughout the day. It features rice-shaped black glass beads with a matte finish, all of which are original, handmade and in excellent vintage condition. Note that one bead is cut at an angle and appears chipped, but it is not.
The beads are mounted on brass pins with dark patina. The gilding has worn off the pins, but much remains on the twisted figure-8 links surrounding the pater beads. This type of link was popular in the 1800s and continued into the early 20th century. I believe this rosary is circa 1920s to 1940s.
In wonderful contrast to the deep, dark beads are the brightly gilded brass crucifix and center medal. The heart-shaped center features the Jesuit "IHS" Christogram ornately executed within a coin edge. On the verso is a simple profile of Mary.
The slender 2-layer crucifix has nice yin-yang energy with dainty scrolled edges contrasting the grooved lines on the cross. The molded corpus is nicely detailed and the gilding is bright and cheerful. It is marked "Czechoslovakia" along the length of the verso.
Many vintage and antique Czech glass rosaries are in relatively poor condition, making this classic religious devotional an especially nice find. Comes boxed and ready for gift-giving.
