Louis Prang Satin Christmas Card
This beautiful Christmas card was made by Wirths Brothers, a Boston company owned by Louis Prang. Prang, who invented chromolithography, is considered the inventor of the American Christmas greeting card. Wirths were known for fringed postcards.
This rich card is very detailed in design, with a padded silk satin base fringed all around; pleated silk corner and velvet topped with a metal "A joyful Christmas". A chromolithographed folding card is attached. Three corners are embellished with silk and metallic cord and flowers.
The back is heavy cardboard.
This is an outstanding card for any collector!
DATE: C. 1885
CONDITION: Excellent with one small stain on the front of the chromo and a few small black spots on the border of the inside of the chromo. The cardboard back has a bend and some staining.
