Louis Prang Antique Victorian Silk Christmas Card

Louis Prang Satin Christmas Card

This beautiful Christmas card was made by Wirths Brothers, a Boston company owned by Louis Prang. Prang, who invented chromolithography, is considered the inventor of the American Christmas greeting card. Wirths were known for fringed postcards.

This rich card is very detailed in design, with a padded silk satin base fringed all around; pleated silk corner and velvet topped with a metal "A joyful Christmas". A chromolithographed folding card is attached. Three corners are embellished with silk and metallic cord and flowers.

The back is heavy cardboard.

This is an outstanding card for any collector!
