WOW !! Museum Quality ~ OUTSTANDING 1860's Signed Thomas Brooks ROSEWOOD Rococo Half Commode ~ American Made
This is a very fine example of one of America's finest cabinet makers. The original Thomas Brooks markings are available in the photos. The piece is 30 1/2" high, 17 1/2" wide, and 15" deep. It has a paneled door in the front with original escutcheon. The nicely framed/molded drawer above the door has its original turned rosette and knob. It has columns which are circular at the top and bottom with wonderful carving above and below the circular part. The fine molding is present on all four sides. The back and both sides are similarly paneled, and the fine original finish is identical front, back and both sides. While we cannot absolutely authenticate the originality of the marble, its age certainly makes possible that assumption. The small size, near perfect condition, and perfect original finish allow this piece to add beauty no matter where it is placed, or how it is oriented. If you are hunting for one near perfect piece of signed, New York cabinetry, ca 1860, made by one of the masters, this is the one!
