OUTSTANDING EXCEPTIONAL Rococo Rosewood Victorian center table attributed to Alexander Roux with the original shaped mauve marble top. It has a wonderfully carved skirt that features large scroll carved cabochon centered medallions on all four sides. There are scroll, floral, and nut carvings at the top of each of the graceful legs. Four carved, shaped stretchers support a gorgeous central carved basket, topped with a nicely turned and carved finial. The center table is the focal point of the Victorian living room. The vibrant stunning grain of the rosewood is on full display. All four sides are heavily serpentine and profusely carved with scrolls, raised panels and floral features centered with the medallions mentioned above. This table is one of the best and made by one of the premier firms of the period. It is in the remarkable original condition that the sophisticated collectors covet! In New Orleans, Louisiana, between 1832 and 1874, Prudent Mallard made, imported and sold rococo and Renaissance Revival-style Victorian furniture with elaborate carvings. Louisiana furniture, like the elaborately decorated rococo-revival Prudent Mallard furniture of the 1850s to the 1870s, regularly comes up for sale.
